What Daddies Like

In this gentle debut for both Nevin and Six, a lumpish father bear, dressed in an argyle sweater and striped pants, spends the day with his cub as the younger bear recounts a litany of things that fathers enjoy. Six’s tranquil watercolors show the bears leaving their den for a green meadowland dotted with pink tufted trees. Throughout, the cub narrates their activities (“Daddies like adventures. Daddies like swings”), which eventually transition into bedtime rituals. Through the father’s expressions, Six subtly hints at the stresses of child care, but there’s no mistaking the mutual joy these bears find in being together. Ages 4–8.
