Fit Men Cook: 100+ Meal Prep Recipes for Men and Women—Always #HealthyAF, Never Boring

Kevin Curry. Touchstone, $29.99 (320p) ISBN 978-1-5011-7872-6

Curry, creator of the FitMenCook app, laces his hardcover debut with hashtags, Instagram-worthy photos, and listicles on topics like the five most common pitfalls of dieting. Which is not to say that the work lacks moments of depth. There are motivational pep talks, confessional tales of coping with depression, and hard earned bits of wisdom (“You simply cannot outtrain a poor diet”). Curry’s meal plans are full of sturdy and flavorful ingredients and recipes designed for those who want to cook a couple times a week in batches large enough to last several days. The entries are labeled to indicate their dietary qualities, including gluten- and dairy-free options and high-protein and low-carb selections. One of Curry’s self-proclaimed signature dishes is chicken crust pizza. Instead of flour, a dough of pulverized poultry, grated parmesan, and herbs is molded and baked before being sauced and topped with mozzarella. Alternatively, whole wheat flour, ground turkey, and reduced-fat cheeses come together in a thyme cheeseburger breakfast casserole. And a healthy-ish white mac ’n’ cheese employs whole wheat noodles along with goat cheese, greek yogurt, and crumbled turkey bacon. Curry’s mission speaks volumes to readers in need of a workable diet to accompany their fitness plan. [em](Dec.) [/em]
