This Christian paranormal romance rests on the premise that a soul is required to fall in romantic love. Ela (a name for God, we’re told) is nearly 30 and spends much of her time caring for her autistic brother Tim and running a bookshop dedicated to the autistic community of Cape Spear, Newfoundland. She has two concerns: Tim and getting married. Every man she encounters is evaluated for hotness and parenting skills, often repeatedly. No man makes the cut, though—it’s Lucian, enforcer demon from the Ninth Realm of HellQuarters, who smells so good she can’t resist him. Unfortunately, Lucian has a demon war to stop, and a virgin teetotaler who wears a lace mantilla to morning Mass can’t distract him—unless that virginal blood might come in handy—but then Lucian, who is supposed to have no soul, finds himself falling in love with her. Redundant, meandering prose, shaky mechanics, and shallow characterization mean that the patience of a saint will be required to follow this trilogy to its end. [em](BookLife) [/em]
