New Girl in Town

Carol Q. Sansevere. Lynx Books, $2.95 (128pp) ISBN 978-1-55802-200-3

In the first book of the Palm Beach Prep series, about an affluent, private girls' school, Quinn is a new girl, an outsider by many measures. She can only attend the school because she is on scholarship, unlike her wealthy, pampered classmates who easily acquire whatever they wish. The school has many cliques, including that of Cara Knowles and her haughty friends. Cara immediately dislikes Quinn, who is sarcastic and streetwise. When Cara accuses her of stealing her watch, three other girls come to Quinn's aid; Alicia, Nicole and Esme are among the school's ``sincere'' types, and they concoct a scheme to prove Quinn's innocence. Their plan succeeds, and a new friendship develops among the four girls. Mildly entertaining, this will find a place among diehard series fans. Ages 11-up. (Mar.)
