Take It from Us

Jeffrey Zaslow. Bonus Books, $19.95 (316pp) ISBN 978-1-56625-012-2

Who better than celebrities to give the rest of us advice? According to Zaslow (an advice columnist at the Chicago Sun Times who beat 12,000 other applicants to replace Ann Landers), celebrities are regular people who realized their dreams and became more successful than most of us. Here he culls more than 100 luminaries from sports, politics, literature, publishing, music and Hollywood to offer their advice-some serious, some humorous-on all kinds of subjects. Rush Limbaugh talks about the importance of being yourself; Roger Clinton, the President's brother, tells how he defines himself through his music; and Florence Henderson, aka Mrs. Brady, provides guidance ``mothering from a box.'' There are personal asides here too: How did comedian John Lovitz know he made it? ``Once I was walking down the street and dogs were barking at me. I said `Ah... even animals recognize me!'""
