Amelia, the spunky (occasionally bratty) nine-year-old star of the popular picture book titles by Marissa Moss, comes to life via this animated video inspired by Amelia's Notebook. It's moving day and Amelia, her mother and older sister, Cleo, are packing up all their belongings and saying goodbye to their house. Amelia hates leaving her best friend, Nadia, behind, and is less than thrilled about being the new kid in a new school. But an inventive teacher and friendly classmate who shares Amelia's love of art help make the transition a little easier. Best of all, a phone call from Nadia reassures Amelia that the two will always be close no matter what new friends each of them may make. Amelia's anxieties ring true, as do the family dynamics, including Amelia's annoyance at Cleo's every move and Mom's can-do enthusiasm. Fans of Moss's work will find much to like here: the hand lettering and perky drawings on lined paper that give the books their distinctive look make a fine transition to the small screen. Ages 8-12.
