Slippery When Wet

Cairo. S&S/Strebor, $15 trade paper (304p) ISBN 978-1-59309-435-5

Cairo (The Kat Trap) dedicates this collection to “undercover freaks” who will appreciate these five erotic stories featuring African-American women enjoying same-sex passion. In “Juicy Fruit,” Ava’s New Year resolution is to avoid making poor relationship choices tied to her lust for men; a weekend trip to the Poconos with co-worker Kara provides Ava with an opportunity to embrace new things. “Sweet ’n’ Sticky” offers the fantasy of Miasha, whose marriage to a rich man who travels for a living gives her ample opportunity to engage in secret trysts with both the staff at the Pink Kitty spa and other wealthy wives. In “Straight No Chaser,” Reggie seeks satisfaction in presenting as male to unsuspecting straight women. Cairo’s enthusiasm never falters, but the writing is uneven enough to distract readers, and the sexual climaxes often fail to resolve the story. (Nov.)
