Sensational Sex in 7 Easy Steps: The Proven Plan for Enhancing Your Sexual Function and Achieving Optimum Health

Ridwan Shabsigh. Rodale Press, $19.99 (360pp) ISBN 978-1-59486-421-6

Claiming that sexual health and physical health are inexorably entwined, Columbia University professor of urology Shabsigh, also the director of the New York Center for Human Sexuality at New York Presbyterian Hospital, offers a common-sense approach to wellness with the promise of a more fulfilling sex life. Much of the doctor's advice is familiar: don't smoke, maintain a healthy weight, eat right, exercise and so on. Those concerns, repeated throughout the book ad infinitum, dominate the seven steps, with plenty of charts and plans to encourage couch potatoes; the promised sensational sex is a byproduct of the resulting physical and mental health. Shabsigh's expertise gives weight to his take on erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation and other problems. Though geared toward males, readers of both sexes are likely to find the urological information informative, but the rest of the book fails to distinguish itself in a crowded category.
