The Siren’s Dance

Amber Belldene. Lyrical, $3.99 e-book (150p) ISBN 978-1-60183-703-5

Death isn’t the end for ballerina Anya Truss in Belldene’s second Siren’s Romance paranormal (after The Siren’s Touch). Anya is murdered by the vicious and predatory Stas Demyan, and she becomes a vila, a spirit trapped in our world by her ballet slipper. In order to gain her freedom and fully embrace her afterlife, she must kill Stas. To find him, she enlists the help of his son, Sergey Yuchenko. Until meeting ghostly Anya, Stas had always assumed his mother’s warnings about demons and the supernatural were a consequence of her mental illness. The quest takes Anya and Sergey from Kiev to Odessa, and though Stas’s trail is cold, tension between Anya and Sergey is heating up. The initial chemistry between Anya and Sergey feels forced, and the setting lacks real Ukrainian flavor, but the tightly paced plot will hold the reader’s attention, and the rapport that develops between the protagonists will reward it.
