The Best of Papercrafts Magazine

Edited by Jennifer Schaerer, Leisure Arts (www.leisurearts.com), $18.95 paper (288p) ISBN 9781609000776

With this volume, the popular crafts magazine Papercrafts celebrates six years of publication. Bright, clear photos of hundreds of paper crafts, including cards, scrapbook pages and more, make the book a delight. An early section also includes simple, well-presented food recipes paired with a craft: "Grandma Betty's Pull-Aparts" go with a family reunion paper set, while "Sunday Pie" shares the stage with a Father's Day Card & Photo Cube. However, when it comes to the strength of instruction, some brief blurbs may leave inexperienced crafters unsure of how to proceed. All gluing and taping instructions are boiled down to "adhere ______ to ______," surely insufficient information given the wide variety of adhesives and adhesing techniques in the paper world. Also, as the editor points out, since the projects compiled here were taken from past issues, some of them may no longer be available; while she suggests readers use their creativity, some will be left scratching their heads. However, paper crafters looking for inspiration will find this a treasure trove. Photos. (Sept.)
