Face Painting

Karen Harvey. Quarto/QEB, $12.95 paper (64p) ISBN 978-1-60992-925-1

Brushstroke by brushstroke, Harvey shows readers how to create 30 face-painting designs, demonstrated in photographs of multiethnic kids, whose faces transform into tigers, ghouls, cats, dragons, witches, and butterflies. The projects are ranked in terms of difficulty, and Harvey offers clear, numbered instructions for each: “With a round dauber and pink paint, sponge on rosy, round cheeks under the eyes,” reads one of the steps for creating a “cute bunny” face. An introductory section covers face-painting tools and techniques. Whether cute or creepy, the designs are so appealing that readers will be hard-pressed to wait for a special occasion to replicate them. Ages 5–8. (Apr.)
