Do Nice. Be Kind. Spread Happy.

Bernadette Russell. EDC/Kane Miller, $14.99 paper (96p) ISBN 978-1-61067-255-9

Russell, founder of the 366 Days of Kindness initiative, compiles nearly 80 suggestions for “committing acts of ninja niceness,” which include leaving notes expressing affection for a loved one, buying a Popsicle for the person behind you in line, making a playlist for someone, and more elaborate ideas like hosting special events at nursing homes. The suggestions get their own vividly illustrated pages or spreads, which include a box to be checked off when the good deed is done, as well as space to write about how it was accomplished. With bright juxtapositions of people, objects, and fonts, the energetic, posterlike presentation bolters the message about how much fun being kind can be: after all, what’s better than ringing a neighbor’s doorbell, leaving a cupcake, and watching from a hiding spot in the bushes? Ages 7–up. (Sept.)
