I Want to Be a Lion Tamer

Ruby Brown, illus. by Alisa Coburn. EDC/Kane Miller, $8.99 (22p) ISBN 978-1-61067-405-8

A boy and girl take turns imagining careers in a variety of animal-themed professions, including zookeeper, dog walker, and marine biologist in a playful board book originally published in Australia. Brown mostly plays it straight with the first-person narration (as an exotic bird breeder, “I’ll take care of baby parakeets and finishes. I’ll hand-feed them and keep them warm”), but Coburn’s cartoons are filled with visual jokes, such as a tiger tucking into a steak with fork and knife at the zoo or the cast-wearing bear reading a magazine in the vet’s waiting room. Available simultaneously: I Want to Be an Astronaut. Ages 2–5. (Mar.)
