Who’s Ready to Play? And Lots of Other Questions

Anton Poitier, illus. by Tracy Cottingham. EDC/Kane Miller, $9.99 (32p) ISBN 978-1-61067-462-1

In a lively guessing game book that feels like an older cousin to Olivier Tallec’s recent Who Did It?, small images of 24 cartoon animals appear in four rows and six columns, set against white backgrounds. The animals have marbled bodies and friendly expressions—most look identical from page to page, but small variations reveal the answers to 15 questions including “Who’s upside down?” (the monkey goes from sitting on a branch to hanging from it by its tail) and “Who’s pooped?” (the cow, and they don’t mean that it’s tired). Some questions, like “Who’s swapped places?” and “Who’s changed color?” require flipping between pages. It’s an appealing memory exercise, and a closing “Who’s who?” page identifies each animal for readers who are just encountering peacocks, chameleons, and kangaroos for the first time. Ages 2–6. (Mar.)
