Scratch Track

Eli Lang. Riptide, $17.99 trade paper (260p) ISBN 978-1-62649-691-0

Lang’s third Escaping Indigo contemporary (after Skin Hunger) continues the series trend of complex and nuanced conflicts and rich character growth. Quinn, manager and roadie for the successful rock band Escaping Indigo, always takes care of the people around him. When his band happens to be recording at the same time and studio as their former opening band, Rest in Peach, Quinn has to face a romance he let drop to deal with his brother’s death by drug overdose. Quinn’s unresolved grief and sense of failure over not doing enough for his brother combine with his feeling that his happy, romantically committed bandmates don’t need him the way they once did. In order to get his second chance with Nicky, the delectably attractive Rest in Peach drummer, Quinn will have to learn to accept the same care he gives. The story is sexy, thick with emotion, and satisfying to the last page. Newcomers and fans of the series alike will find plenty to enjoy. (Feb.)
