Since the order’s founding in the 16th century, the members of the Society of Jesus have been known as educators and missionaries. This tradition is being lived out in new and creative ways by contemporary young Jesuit seminarians and priests who are exploring spiritual frontiers and evangelizing new cultures. Gilger, a newly ordained priest and campus minister at Creighton University in Omaha, Neb., is the ideal editor for this collection of short essays, all of which originally appeared on the Jesuit Post blog. He gives plenty of latitude to the authors to explore quirky, even controversial topics in order to, as the Jesuit motto goes, “find God in all things.” Topics of these concise and engaging pieces include self-doubt, the Holocaust, existential philosophy, religious poetry, crazy Internet commenters, and mass media. Nothing is off limits for these writers because all topics, they believe, can be mined for the presence of God. Religious faith and the spiritual life are more relevant than ever, even if contemporary young adults live out these commitments in radically different ways than past generations.
