The Cathar Secret: A Lang Reilly Thriller

Gregg Loomis. Turner (www.turnerpublishing .com), $17.95 trade paper (406p) ISBN 978-1-63026-005-7

Religious thriller fans will best appreciate Loomis’s sixth book featuring ex-CIA agent and Atlanta criminal attorney Lang Reilly (after 2012’s The Bonaparte Secret). Three-year-old Wynton Rather Charles III (aka Wynn-Three), who has been exhibiting baffling behavior, turns out to be the reincarnation of Solomon Mustawitz, an Auschwitz prisoner with a dangerous Nazi secret. Wynn-Three’s parents, Paige and Wynton Jr., become tangled in a fight with the Atlanta Child Welfare department. After Lang’s wife, Gurt Fuchs, foils an attempt to kidnap Wynn-Three, the parents turn to Lang and Gurt, who’s also ex-CIA, for help. After Wynn-Three is actually abducted, Lang is off to the races around Germany in search of the missing boy. Various subplots involve the Vatican, Jesus, and the ancient Cathars. Lang has the right moves and the action is credible, but the deep secrets, when revealed, are entirely predictable. (Sept.)
