The Supermom Myth

Becky Kopitzke. Shiloh Run, $14.99 ISBN 978-1-63409-524-2

Popular parenting blogger Kopitzke takes on the challenge of reassuring Christian moms that they aren’t crazy, motherhood really is difficult, and help is on the way. Funny and insightful, she is a warm companion on the journey from idealism to reality. “God has called you to be a mom,” she writes, and the “greater purpose of parenting [is] raising disciples.” Each chapter focuses on one “Dirty Villain,” such as the “Grouch on the Couch,” and lists the “Evil Powers,” or attributes, of various villains (anger, irritability, impatience), as well as the “Kryptonite” to protect against them—a list of scripture verses. Kopitzke is self-deprecating and confiding—“How many times a day do you say, ‘Just a minute’? For me, the answer used to be too many.” Although the advice is not revelatory, she tells a great story. It’s always good to be reassured that you’re only human. (Dec.)
