Lift-the-Flap Friends: Dinosaurs

Illus. by Peter Allen. Bloomsbury, $9.99 (14p) ISBN 978-1-68119-099-0

In one of two books launching the Lift-the-Flap Friends series, children can look underneath flaps to discover hidden dinosaurs, imagine what colors they might have been, and see what’s on their dinner plates. Kids with even a passing knowledge of dinosaurs may not be too impressed by the lack of detail (not a single dinosaur species is mentioned, though a few get names like Steggie and Dil). It’s best for very young readers who are just interested in goofy, lift-the-flap fun (such as seeing what animals are hanging out in the bellies of four burping dinos), a mood that Allen’s loopy, eye-popping cartoons play right into. Simultaneously available: Fairies. Ages 2–4. (Oct.)
