Shadows of Hope

Georgiana Daniels. Shiloh Run, $14.99 trade paper (320p) ISBN 978-1-6832-2545-4

Daniels (Table for One) investigates the fallout of an affair in this emotionally revealing novel. Marissa Moreau, director of New Heights, a pregnancy resource center, believes that her husband is having an affair, although she has no evidence. Kaitlyn Farrow has indeed started sleeping with Marissa’s professor husband, Colin, and is now in love. She gets pregnant, but before she can tell Colin, he breaks off the relationship. Kaitlyn, who now must deal with the unexpected pregnancy on her own, turns to New Heights for help. Unaware of their connection, Marissa and Kaitlyn become friends and sources of comfort for each other. With her marriage deteriorating and the pain of a miscarriage weighing her down, Marissa realizes she must make changes. Slowly, meanwhile, Colin’s lies are uncovered, the biggest of them coming last; for Kaitlyn and Marissa, the revelation inspires a return to their faith. Although it ends with a shallow resolution, Daniels’s novel will appeal to readers looking for an emotional story with strong faith elements. (Apr.)
