I Am Rahab: Touched by God, Fully Restored

Autumn Miles. Worthy, $16.99 trade paper (224p) ISBN 978-1-68397-269-3

In this helpful book, Miles (Appointed), founder and CEO of the Blush Network ministry for Christian women, explores how Rahab became her lodestar and explains how she can be an example for women looking to reframe a negative personal narrative. Rahab, a prostitute who helps the Israelites in the Book of Joshua, provides Miles with a biblical example of someone who wasn’t “the ones acing their Bible drills in Sunday school” and whose story proved to Miles that “a life entrenched in the depths of sin didn’t remain wicked.” She goes on to share her own upbringing in a strict Baptist house run by her preacher father, her adolescent years of lying and rebelling, and her early adult life in an abusive relationship. Soon she realized there was a distinct possibility her husband might kill her; she opened up to her sister and found help. “At the tender age of twenty-two,” she writes, “I boasted a new shiny title: divorcee.” Miles walks readers through finding a person to trust with one’s stories of trauma and provides scriptural prompts meant to encourage reflection. Through weaving Rahab’s story into her own, Miles finds a way to get back up and shares the lessons gleaned from that emotional journey. (Aug.)
