Famous Family Trees: Explore 25 Family Trees from History

Kari Hauge, illus. by Vivien Mildenberger. Lincoln, $19.99 (64p) ISBN 978-1-78603-226-3

Hauge presents the family trees of 25 famed figures from history, including Mahatma Gandhi, Ada Lovelace, and Nelson Mandela. Each “tree” comprises individual portraits of family members, identified and paired with brief biographical details. Left pages feature scenes of the subjects within a context for which they are best known: Abraham Lincoln delivers the Gettysburg Address; Charlotte Brontë sits at her writing desk. Mildenberger’s watercolor art is light and personable, with family members peering at one another from their individual “branches.” While the charts themselves offer little visual variety and the small fonts might prove less than inviting for some, readers may be inspired to research their own genealogical roots.
