Finding Gold

Tammy Hilz. Scarlet (UK), $19.95 (372pp) ISBN 978-1-85487-592-1

Tarot reader Rachel Gold--a romantic suspense heroine as good as her name implies--has struggled to make a go of her bibelot boutique and take care of her mother and younger sister. At a party, reading the fortunes of ""Dallas's elite,"" she meets handsome hunk Jackson Dermont, who runs a security company--and suspects Rachel in a series of thefts, which have occurred at every party she has worked. Of course, mistrust is not all the fated lovers feel for one another. Although both Rachel and Jackson have learned to be wary of members of the opposite sex, they do eventually cooperate to uncover the real thief. RWA Golden Heart Award-winner Hilz (Dared to Dream) has a way with description and handles the sensual scenes very well. Firmly formulaic, without bothering to evoke its Texas setting, the novel still manages to create suspense and will satisfy fans of the genre. (Nov.)
