Paris Revisited

Alison Culliford. Pavilion Books, $35 (288pp) ISBN 978-1-86205-517-9

This lovely tribute to Paris is a cross between a helpful travel guide and a lavishly illustrated coffee-table book. With 150 color and b&w photos and ample text, the book covers culture, architecture, shopping, dining, partying and other aspects of Parisian life. Culliford, a Paris resident working for Time Out, introduces readers to a glamorous, elegant Paris, one characterized by little-known ateliers where shoppers can find reproductions of Louis XIV furniture; theatrically decorated and lit bars and clubs on the Elysees and Faubourg St-Honore; and small museums such as the Musee Edith Piaf and the Musee du Crystal Baccarat. Although it does not detail hotels or other accommodations, the book does share a section on""coming back,"" which suggests courses for Paris connoisseurs to take, a tour of booklovers' Paris and an overview of""unsung neighborhoods,"" such as the 20th arrondissement, home to Pere Lachaise cemetery, the Buttes-Chaumont park and the Cite Hermitage, a cul-de-sac of artists' studios.
