Hannah's Art of Home: Managing Your Home Around Your Personality

Hannah J. Keeley. Capital Books (VA), $17.95 (338pp) ISBN 978-1-931868-82-2

Keeley, the founder of a line of organic baby spa products and a home-schooling mother of six children, gently urges harried women to organize their homes and lives through simple steps designed to complement their domestic personalities. A quiz helps them determine their type first: the Master Mind, whose home is her ""laboratory""; the Creative Spirit, whose home is her ""stage""; the Mother Hen, whose home is her ""feathered nest""; and the Starry-Eyed Dreamer, whose home is her ""dream world."" When it comes to cleaning, for example, Keeley offers ""prescriptions"" for all types: e.g., Master Minds, who are already good at cleaning, should remember not to sweat a little clutter, while Creative Spirits should alternate between different cleaning techniques to keep from getting bored. Keeley delivers plenty of solid advice, much of it commonsensical but all of it useful. It's too bad that the text wasn't trimmed down, though: were this book distilled to half its size, it might have been twice as good.
