The Chimera Sequence

Elliott Garber. Osprey, $24.99 (390p) ISBN 978-1-943968-01-5

Garber puts his experience as a veterinarian and military officer to good use in this decent bio-thriller. While on a visit to Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, wildlife vet Cole McBride and his team are eager to check on the status of the three mountain gorilla families living in the preserve. To Cole’s horror, most of the apes are dead, from a mysterious illness that has left their corpses covered with lesions. The deaths become even more frightening when the unknown disease begins to infect humans. Meanwhile, U.S. president David Rogers is hoping that he can avoid the mistakes of George W. Bush in handling a mega-storm, a natural disaster that shifts his focus away from conflict over rare mineral deposits in Africa. In addition, an American Muslim disturbed by U.S. policy in the Middle East finds himself caught up in a terror plot. Coincidence plays a large role, but Garber has a gift for keeping readers guessing what will happen next. [em](BookLife) [/em]
