PreS-Gr 2-In this whimsical counting book based on a traditional Galician verse, 11 madcap ladies set out on a globetrotting adventure. At each exotic stop, they manage to lose one of their members in ever more inventive ways. The comical watercolor illustrations are exceptionally entertaining, especially in their depiction of the women who are dressed in rather unique outfits. The illustrator also has a fine time depicting the many foreign places in which the ladies disappear, such as a marketplace in Fez, St. Peter's Square in Russia, a plaza in Monterrey, the Australian outback, a Chinese theater, and even the moon. The last woman turns up in La Corua in northern Spain and settles down quite contentedly next to the sea. Young readers will enjoy the opportunity to travel in their imaginations along with the daring dames. Recommended for all collections. Maria Otero-Boisvert, ""Criticas""
