Los Dinosaurios = The Dinosaurs

Ivar Da Coll. Grupo Editorial Norma, $12.5 (0pp) ISBN 978-958-04-4645-3

Gr 2-4-According to Da Coll's inventive story, dinosaurs were once small and lovable creatures that happened to make very fine house pets. They lived with their owners much like cats and dogs do now. As humans evolved, they invented essentials such as the wheel, fire, tools, and...soup. Since the cave children despised the soup, they would dump it in the bushes when their parents weren't watching. The pet dinosaurs feasted on those soup-enriched bushes and grew quickly to the size for which they are now known. Eventually, the cave families couldn't live with these mammoth creatures in their small homes. Something had to be done. Things looked bad for the dinosaurs until the cave kids came up with a plan to save them. They built a giant stone house for their pets on top of a nearby mountain--never realizing that the mountain was actually an active volcano. Oops! This amusing story is illustrated with wacky characters and landscapes (imagine the Flintstones with punk hairstyles). A surefire hit for most collections.
