Las Tres Es de La Mujer Exitosa: Eficacia, Etica y Equilibrio de Vida Para El Nuevo Siglo

Deborah Legorreta. Ediciones Paidos Iberica, $29.2 (160pp) ISBN 978-968-853-487-8

A book aiming to help women become successful in all aspects of their lives would require not merely three E's but a whole alphabet of how-to's. Yet this slim text by Legorreta, a Mexican psychologist with over 20 years of experience as a consultant for major companies like IBM, does well enough for starters. The book revolves around the central question of how to become an effective, productive woman and to balance career goals with a strong family connection. Legorreta first identifies false beliefs that have limited the lives of women, and, quoting published studies, she debunks these debilitating myths. For instance, she tackles the faulty notion that women's inability to be efficient comes from an innate fear of success and shows that what usually hinders their progress is the stress a patriarchal society inflicts upon them. Legorreta advises her reader to spell out what a worthwhile life means to her personally and provides exercises to facilitate this inner exploration. The author's prose is particularly engaging the few times that she uses herself as an example. Although her research serves her well in making important points, the inspirational quality, essential in self-help books, is lost at times over too many faceless studies. Nonetheless, this is recommended for the self-help section in bookstores.Irene P rez, Jersey City, NJ
