After several years working in San Francisco's ManAlive project, a workshop to help Latino men cope with their own violence, Ram rez Hern ndez has created a model to address issues common to all Latino cultures. Weaving information about specific Latin influences, attitudes, and perspectives throughout, the author covers the basic definitions and types of violence, the causes and evolution of family violence, the change process, and ways to develop a new identity and build different family relationships. Each chapter includes excerpts from interviews with Latino men talking about their personal experiences and a series of questions and exercises to help men discuss and clarify issues with their partners. Also, a self-assessment questionnaire helps men face what is a difficult admission. Ram rez Hern ndez's easy-to-read style and supportive, nonjudgmental tone help readers understand the personal and cultural roots of violence, all the while fostering a stronger, more caring, and redefined masculine role for Latino men.
