Rainbow Chameleon

Yusuke Yonezu. minedition (IPG, dist.), $9.99 (14p) ISBN 978-988-8240-59-3

First published in 2010, Yonezu’s board book follows a chameleon named Leon as he searches for his friend Carmen. The journey is perilous: Leon has close encounters with a snake, wolf, and crocodiles, and by pulling tabs, readers help Leon change color to blend in with his surroundings (except for his yellow, worried-looking eyes). Two cardboard wheels are also incorporated into the book, letting Leon fully demonstrate why he’s called the rainbow chameleon—he’s so good he can even mimic the bar code on the back cover. A rainbow with labeled colors adds an educational element to this entertaining story. Ages 3–up. (Apr.)
