After a brief recap, the action-packed third Lost Platoon contemporary romantic thriller (after Off the Grid) wraps up the mystery of why a Navy SEAL team was targeted in Siberia, with more than half the force lost and the other half going dark until they can ferret out who betrayed them. Lt. Cdr. Scott Taylor, the leader of SEAL Team Nine, feels responsible for his teammates’ deaths after discovering that his girlfriend, Natalie, was secretly a Russian spy. He’s determined to better understand how someone he loved and trusted betrayed him, and the story becomes more complex when he discovers that American-born Natalie tried to prevent the team’s ambush, even though going against her orders risked the safety of her own family. Meanwhile, McCarty continues to flesh out a secondary story featuring Scott’s sister, Kate, and her ex-husband, Colt, who are also involved in this complex, well-built espionage story. This installment ties up loose ends by uniting two couples with significant spark, but there remain a few “dark” and uncoupled SEALs waiting to return home, so McCarty may have future stories planned for them.
