Do I Know You?

Emily Wibberley and Austin Siegemund-Broka. Berkley, $17 trade paper (352p) ISBN 978-0-593-20195-4

A couple work to recover their lost spark in this clever rom-com from married writing duo Wibberley and Siegemund-Broka (The Roughest Draft). Corporate attorney Graham Cutler and his wife, Eliza, a voice actor, receive an all-expenses-paid stay at California’s Treeline Resort as a five-year anniversary present, but worry the getaway will be “awkward and claustrophobic,” given a recent rift in their marriage. After learning the hotel accidentally held two rooms for them, Eliza suggests they keep both, hoping the space might do them some good. When a new vacation friend later introduces them to each other, not realizing that they’re married, the pair go along with it, seizing the opportunity to reinvent themselves. Graham, now playing an investment banker from Santa Fe, and Eliza, a vacation planner from Boston, get to know each other all over again, reigniting the passion and curiosity that had gone missing from their relationship. But will they be able to bring this newfound happiness back with them to their daily lives? The authors’ seamless prose toggles between Eliza’s and Graham’s perspective, providing tasty insight into their secret thoughts as the slow-burning romance heats up. Readers won’t be able to turn the pages fast enough. Agent: Katie Shea Boutillie, Donald Maass Literary. (Jan.)
