Witcha Gonna Do?

Avery Flynn. Berkley, $17 trade paper (336p) ISBN 978-0-593-33521-5

Flynn (Anger Bang) gets her Witchton series off to a spicy start with this jam-packed paranormal rom-com. In a world where witches are so accepted that eye-of-newt muffins are perfectly normal bakery fare, Tilda Sherwood is “an outré,” the rare witch born with no magical powers whatsoever. She’s the black sheep of her family and constantly worries about failing and embarrassing them. Her nemesis in small-town Wrightsville, Va., is Gil Connolly, a handsome and powerful witch who can’t seem to keep away from Tilda. Much to Tilda’s distress, these two keep getting set up on blind dates by well-meaning friends. Gil has a secret, though: he’s working to get his powerful family out of exile, a mission which entails spying on Tilda to discover if she is something more than just an outré. Meanwhile, when Tilda accidentally sets a curse on her family, she turns to Gil for help. While the plot is at times a bit rushed and the solutions convenient, there’s plenty of charm in the wise-cracking characters, hot-as-hell chemistry, and pun-filled worldbuilding (their social media is WitchyGram). This sexy romp of a romance is sure to win fans. Agent: Elaine Spencer, Knight Agency. (Dec.)
