Moms Can Do It All!

Ted Maass, illus. by Ekaterina Trukhan. Grosset & Dunlap, $8.99 (18p) ISBN 978-0-593-52297-4

“A mom is proof that dreams can come true,/ so remember, if she can do it, you can, too!” Maass applauds hardworking mothers who represent various occupations with this cheerleading board book. Simple rhymes feature an architect, builder, farmer, firefighter, medical practitioner, pilot, and more, while Trukhan’s digital renderings show doll-like figures of various skin tones smiling as they get the job done. In one scene, a brown-skinned figure works at a laptop, a baby perched nearby (“Some moms use their imaginations to become writers”). Later, a domestic scene presents a child being held while a tan-skinned adult stands at the stove (“There are moms whose job is taking care of their family./ It sure is hard work, but they make it look easy!”). Without getting into what it takes for a parent to “do it all,” the creators craft a profession-oriented, greeting-card-like salute to moms. Publishing simultaneously: Dads Can Do It All!
