How to Marry a Warlock in 10 Days

Saranna DeWylde. Kensington/Brava, $14 trade paper (320p) ISBN 978-0-7582-6916-4

In this loosely connected follow-up to How to Lose a Demon in 10 Days, DeWylde delivers a laugh-out-loud mixture of paranormal romance and erotic encounters. This time, in a not-so-thinly-veiled sendup of the Harry Potter world, the spotlight falls on Midnight “Middy” Cherrywood, a virginal witch trying to raise funding for the annual Gargoyle Masque. Enter Dred Shadowins, billionaire socialite, occasional centerfold model, and secret agent for the High Chancellor. Dred needs a date for the Masque as a cover for his newest assignment. Their subsequent arrangement gives them both what they need and leads to frequent, magical sex. Playful banter and amazing chemistry fuel their partnership as they seek to foil a nefarious plot to resurrect a monster out of legend. Despite the satisfying romance and promising buildup, things fall apart with a hasty, unconvincing ending that ties events into a larger series cosmology. Still, this unapologetically earthy, unreservedly bawdy tale has plenty of appeal. Agent: Pamela Harty, the Knight Agency. (Oct.)
