Cubicles

Walter Ostlie. Walter Ostlie, $19.95 (128p) ISBN 978-0-9969548-1-5

Wally, a mild-mannered, mousy employee, finds life in his office-supply company boring—though it’s spiced up by his outrageous and impulsive buddy, Ost, who throws the office into chaos daily. When the two unwittingly stumble onto the new boss Blaine’s plan to take over the company by marrying the owner’s daughter (Wally’s unrequited love) Sarah, Blaine sends them on what is supposed to be a routine supplies delivery but which he intends to end in their deaths. Yet life in a cubicle has somehow prepared them to take on barbarians, space pirates, giant squids, and corporate thugs. Mixing the sensibilities of office comedy, Seth Rogen bromances, absurd Family Guy asides, and a splash of Walter Mitty, Ostile has successfully adapted his Cubicles comic strip into a goofy yet loveable story, with visually appealing pastel-laden panels, action sequences, and eclectic aliens.
