You’re in the Right Place: Let Go of the Past, Make Friends with Uncertainty, and Discover the Magic of an Uncharted Future

Collette Baron-Reid. Hay House, $17.99 trade paper (216p) ISBN 978-1-4019-9775-5

Baron-Reid (The Map) attempts to explain in this haphazard guide how readers who feel lost or stuck can chart a course “to a new you and a new life.” In moments of chaos and emotional turmoil, she contends, the map of one’s soul—“where you have been and how you got to where you were”—stops serving as a valuable reference point, constrained as it is by “old, fear-driven ways that got us to where we are now.” To discover a new path, readers must tap into a higher consciousness to connect with their “soul self”—a “wiser,” more “detached” observer who’s “less reactive to outer circumstances” than the “small self,” which seeks safety at the expense of growth. Once connected to their soul self, readers progress through four interconnected realms: the Realm of Mind, where one shapes a new narrative; the Realm of Light, where one decides which elements of one’s life to reclaim and which to discard; the Realm of Energy, where one directs energy toward their purpose; and the Realm of Form, where one implements changes to their life. Baron-Reid’s enthusiasm is obvious but her execution is flawed; she cobbles together Freudian theories, trite encouragements, and personal anecdotes into a convoluted program that can feel contradictory, repetitive, and hard to follow. All but the most patient spiritual seekers will find themselves lost. (June)
