Run to You

Rachel Lacey. Forever, $5.99 mass market (368p) ISBN 978-1-4555-3754-9

The first book in Lacey’s Risking It All contemporary series follows Gabby Winters, who’s renting a summer cottage in the small mountain town of Haven, N.C., to recuperate after leaving an abusive relationship. The video game software developer has no plans to make friends or date, but finds it hard to resist Olympic gold medal swimmer Ethan Hunter’s pleas to go out with him in order to make his grandmother’s final days happy. Like Gabby, Ethan wants to avoid a real relationship because he’s busy building Off-the-Grid, an adventure park, with two close friends, plus he’s carrying some baggage from his own difficult childhood. There’s never any doubt that Gabby and Ethan will get together as their chemistry jumps off the page, and the barriers they have to overcome are fairly minor. Lacey (Only You) doesn’t break new ground, but nevertheless delivers a heartwarming read that fans will love. Agent: Sarah Younger, Nancy Yost Literary. (Sept.)
