Chasing Heaven: What Dying Taught Me About Living

Crystal McVea and Alex Tresniowski. Howard, $16 trade paper (304p) ISBN 978-1-5011-2491-4

McVea (Waking Up in Heaven) comes back again to the topic closest to her heart: heaven. The book begins with McVea briefly recapping the day in 2009 when she died, woke up in heaven, and experienced heavenly conversations, sights, sounds, and smells before her body was resuscitated. McVea's focus for this title is how that event changed her life. After she spent nine minutes in heaven, it was difficult to reacclimate to life on Earth. McVea details her desperation to hear from God and gain direction for surrendering herself in service to him. While she waited, she tried many ways of serving her community, including attending a church for the homeless, developing a monthly ministry for women employed in the sex industry, and broadening her understanding of genuine love toward those who choose to live outside of the Christian community. Some might question the source of McVea's inspiration, most will be encouraged by her total life change since her nine minutes in heaven taught her ways to follow God's path on earth. (Mar.)
