Max and Felix
Larry Dane Brimner, Larry Dane Brimmner. Boyds Mills Press, $14.95 (1pp) ISBN 978-1-56397-010-8
Max and Felix, the two funny frogs featured in this chapter book, record their mishaps and misadventures with the click of a camera. Whether the frogs are building a new porch, telling spooky stories or going fishing, Felix captures the unwittingly comic moments, and the inclusion of his very candid black-and-white ``photographs'' subtly enriches the story. Gray's bright, cartoonish illustrations irresistibly accentuate Max and Felix's long, skinny limbs, their paunchy bellies and loud, tacky outfits. Unfortunately, there is little differentiation between Max and Felix; their lack of distinguishing personalities, styles or speech patterns seems like a missed opportunity in an otherwise mirthful work. Ages 2-6. (Feb.)
