OOPS-A-Daisy!: And Other Tales for Toddlers

Joyce Dunbar. Candlewick Press (MA), $14.95 (32pp) ISBN 978-1-56402-551-7

Four slice-of-toddler-life vignettes, while perky and realistic, don't add up to a great deal in this slim volume. In the title tale, a spirited girl imitates her friend's antics until the two bump heads; they bounce right back and the girl suggests they ""play it again."" In the subsequent entries, the child poses some outlandish ""what if"" questions to her stuffed teddy bear; doesn't do a very good job of sharing toys when a friend comes to play; and reassures her bear when he fails to win the ""best-dressed teddy"" contest. Thompson's (Bumpety Bump) sketchy, vibrant watercolor-and-ink illustrations fluidly transmit the young heroine's exuberance. Ages 3-up. (Aug.)
