The Producer’s Daughter

Lindsay Marcott. Crooked Lane (, $24.95 (288p) ISBN 978-1-61129-075-2

Producer and script writer Marcott’s well-crafted if familiar insider’s look at nefarious movie studio machinations will resonate with fans of the glitzy novels of the late Jackie Collins. When Hannah Doran was a toddler in 1990, she and her au pair discovered her mother’s dead body. A decade and a half later, her attempts to get attention from her producer father, Warren, have led to celebutante stunts climaxing in her arrest and incarceration. Hannah’s release from women’s prison coincides with Warren’s well-publicized plans to relaunch his most successful film franchise with the questionable support of his studio’s accomplished vice president, Alicia Chenoweth, and her boss, the vile Cody Takish. Meanwhile, paparazzi and former combat photojournalist Mitchell Arpino is hoping to capture some footage of Hannah to sell. Marcott (The Dead Celeb and two other Lucy Freers mysteries as by Lindsay Maracotta) doesn’t offer anything new to the concept of sordid Hollywood, and the lack of likable characters will put off some readers.
