Heart-pounding action, spicy love scenes, and a healthy dose of the supernatural carry the day in Tyler’s 12th Special Wolf Alpha Team paranormal romance (after Wolf Untamed). For two years, assistant medical examiner Samantha Mills and Dallas SWAT team member Trey Duncan have been dancing around their mutual attraction. It takes working together on an investigation of a serial killer—dubbed “The Butcher” in part for the way in which his victim’s body parts are left scattered—for their courtship to begin in earnest. There are, though, a couple of obstacles to their budding romance: Trey’s hiding the fact that he’s a werewolf, and Samantha, sensing something odd, has been working to suss out this secret since they first met. With the investigation heating up and time running short, both are torn between shifting loyalties—and their secrets may tear them apart. Tyler’s trademark action and slow-burning heat, coupled with the return of some fun familiar faces, keep the pages turning as the plot hits all the standard paranormal romance beats. Surprising twists in the hunt for the Butcher will leave readers guessing on the way to a satisfying ending—with the hope of more to come. Series fans will be pleased.
