Lucy Score. Bloom, $19.99 trade paper (560p) ISBN 978-1-7282-9706-4
Returning to quirky small-town Story Lake, Pa., bestseller Score delivers another diverting contemporary. Romance author Hazel, the heroine of the previous book, Story of My Life, is happily settled in town and engaged to a local, Cam, but her chaotic, happy-go-lucky literary agent Zoey is eager to get back to Manhattan. Unfortunately, funds are low and her apartment building has just gone condo, so she’s stuck in Story Lake for the time being. After the town’s bald-eagle mascot, Goose, drops a live snake on Zoey’s head, she runs into the street and is nearly hit by Cam’s no-nonsense brother, Gage, a lawyer and contractor. It’s a disastrous first meeting, but opposites attract and the pair can’t deny their chemistry. They agree to a one-night stand that soon spirals into many more. Feelings bloom, but the couple’s different visions of the future may tear them apart. Score’s characters are easy to love, especially neurodivergent Zoey, who, over the course of the story, is diagnosed with ADHD and comes to understand herself in a new way. Add in plenty of humor and cameos from many colorful locals and series fans will not be disappointed. (Mar.)
