Special Ops Seduction

Megan Crane. Berkley, $7.99 mass market (336p) ISBN 978-1-984805-54-6

Crane’s fifth Alaska Force romance (after Delta Force Defender) is a long adrenaline rush punctuated by sweet and sexy interludes. Having endured a harsh, neglectful childhood, Jonas Crow survives by stifling his emotions—but his hardened veneer cracks when Bethan Wilcox becomes the first woman to join the elite Alaska Force. When they were both in the Army, Bethan saved Jonas’s life during a mission gone awry, and her presence in his life serves as an unwelcome reminder of his vulnerability. But he’s forced to face his feelings as the Alaska Force team hunts for a mysterious mercenary who’s kidnapped a biochemist whose research could have terrifying military applications. The search takes them from the Chilean Andes to Portugal to New York City, with a stop at Bethan’s sister’s California wedding, to which, in a far-fetched coincidence, all five of Alaska Force’s primary suspects have been invited. While the plot occasionally strains credulity, readers are unlikely to mind as Crane takes her appealing characters on a breakneck adventure around the world. A well-balanced mix of romance and suspense makes this a sure bet for series fans. Agent: Holly Root, Root Literary. (Jan.)
