Who Eats What?

Stéphanie Babin, illus. by Kiko. Twirl, $12.99 (14p) ISBN 978-2-40800-436-1

In a chunky board book featuring sliding panels, readers learn about 36 animals, their habitats, and their eating habits. In Kiko’s bright, friendly art, animals are identified on left pages, along with captions describing their food sources: “On the Farm,” a cow says, “Moo! My food grows in the fields”; in the forest, a wild boar says, “Oink, oink! I find my favorite food on the ground.” On the recto, the animals are pictured again, each on a panel that slides to reveal that animal’s food (for the lion “On the Savannah,” it’s a gazelle, and for a sloth “In the Jungle,” a leaf). Readers will find much to like in Babin’s game-like design and in the book’s focus on a perennial favorite topic. Ages 3–5. (Aug.)
