The Couple’s Cookbook: Recipes for Newlyweds

Cole and Kiera Stipovich. Ten Speed, $30 (240p) ISBN 978-0-399-58146-5

“As life gets busier and more complicated, it’s a lovely idea to make simple gestures to remind each other of the lightness of your honeymoon phase,” write the Stipoviches, a husband-and-wife photography team, in this fun and entertaining debut. Recognizing “cooking and eating together” as a way for couples to reconnect, the Stipoviches offer practical, enticing recipes that are meant to be prepared and enjoyed together by a couple (most recipes are for two servings, though some can feed four people). A breakfast and brunch chapter contains dishes both sweet (crepes with brown butter bourbon apples and lemon sauce) and savory (black pepper biscuits with cauliflower gravy). The lunch chapter offers plenty of comfort-inspired recipes, such as French onion soup, wedge salad with blue cheese and bacon, and Italian sausage and pepper sandwiches. With recipes including bourbon risotto with pan-fried mushrooms and an udon stir-fry with pork and baby bok choy, the well-rounded dinner chapter will appeal to many different palates. The authors conclude with a cocktail chapter (they consulted Wine Enthusiast spirits editor Kara Newman), as well as a detailed list of kitchen tool essentials. This enthusiastic book will have couples excited to be working in the kitchen together. (Nov.)
