Body of Evidence

Irene Hannon. Revell, $17.99 trade paper (368p) ISBN 978-0-8007-3619-4

Grace Reilly, a forensic pathologist, investigates a series of suspicious deaths in the fast-paced conclusion to Hannon’s Triple Threat trilogy (after Labyrinth of Lies). Grace notices that the autopsies for several recently deceased elderly people, whose deaths were ruled as natural, don’t add up. She takes her reservations to handsome, newly elected Sheriff Nate Cox, whom she develops a crush on. After someone vandalizes Grace’s car, she suspects she’s being threatened, but, undeterred, she continues to investigate and uncovers more suspicious deaths. As Grace and Nate pursue leads, a tip directs them to a God-fearing investment counselor who reveals that someone going by the initials “BK” had been threatening him by phone and coercing him into signing up elderly people for a Ponzi scheme. Nate and Grace develop feelings for each other as they search for BK, who is ready to go to extreme lengths to stop Grace’s investigation. The faith element is slight, but the sweet romance charms and the exciting mystery will keep readers guessing. The result is a fulfilling series finale. (Oct.)
