New beginnings heal old wounds in the sweet but flimsy fifth romance in Scott’s Accidental Billionaires series (after Enchanted). When the newly wealthy Dr. Owen Sinclair purchases a medical practice in his hometown of Citrus Beach, Calif., he’s elated to be able to employ nurse practitioner Layla Caine, the childhood best friend turned high school crush he hasn’t seen in a decade. Owen has no clue why Layla cut ties with him after graduation, but he’s never stopped caring for her and hopes to mend fences. Layla reciprocated Owen’s teenage crush, but a miscommunication at the end of their senior year led her to believe he’d sabotaged her chances for a scholarship that he wanted for himself. Once they start working together, they resolve this lackluster conflict rather painlessly and focus on rebuilding their friendship. Romantic feelings soon follow—but Layla worries their differing financial situations will make their lifestyles incompatible. Though Layla frequently comes across as frustratingly immature, Owen is an easy hero to root for, and the rest of the Sinclair family, whose bonds are tight as ever, add charm. Series readers will find plenty to enjoy. (Oct.)
